Dee Nicholls, Principal of Neuventa IP Consulting

Dee is a registered patent attorney with more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property, and an expert in IP management, freedom to operate and patentability assessment, and global patent prosecution.

Experience

As a patent attorney, Dee has represented a diverse range of applicants, from large multinationals to sole inventors in providing patent services including drafting, filing and prosecution of patents and designs.

Dee has experience in a broad spectrum of different technologies such as mechanical devices, pharmaceuticals, veterinary products, medical devices and electronics.

As an in-house IP attorney, Dee has managed global patent portfolios within the pharmaceutical, crop protection, and animal health industries, with the key responsibility of developing and implementing patent portfolio strategy. As a member of regional product development teams, he integrated expert guidance into the product development pipeline, maximising the value and impact of newly created IP assets. From working within highly competitive fields, Dee has extensive experience with contentious IP issues, having represented patent applicants at many opposition hearings and managed multiple litigation matters.

As an IP advisor for a University investment team, Dee has provided assessments of new technology developed within the University to provide advice on patentability, freedom to operate and suitability for commercialisation. He has also managed patent portfolios of the University and related spin-out companies, providing advice on patent strategy, and assisted with IP licensing for tech transfer and commercialisation of new technology.
